Succession: Season 2 (2019)

Season 2

Critics Consensus

Succession returns in darkly funny form, with sharp writing, exceptional performances, and a surprising new level of sympathy for some of television's least likable characters.

Critic Reviews for Succession Season 2

All Critics (59) | Top Critics (21)

Succession is a series about monstrous rich people that manages to be exhilarating and grim as hell at the same time.

It's almost irresponsible how good it is, but luckily the only people who would actually reenact it are also already boars themselves.

There is enough back-stabbing and secretive planning among the Roys to keep them joyless - and to keep us joyfully entertained - for some time to come.

There's not enough absorbency in a tissue factory to mop up the verbal effluent when the warring siblings and their irascible patriarch get together to talk business.

Aug 15, 2019 | Rating: 5/5 | Full Review…

It should be said that Succession isn't for the faint-hearted. Foul-mouthed insults flew thick and fast, while several scenes would have been pretty impenetrable to new viewers.

There are moments - usually when the camera jerks towards Kendall's vacant, flummoxed face - when I believe that Succession is just about the best thing I've ever seen on television.

The extended cast includes great stealth actors like J. Smith-Cameron as Gerri, the corporation's chief counsel, and Hiam Abbass as Logan's supportive but steely third wife.

Oct 16, 2019 | Full Review…

Succession returned for a darkly funny, whip-smart, and brilliantly performed second run that leaves us begging for more and assured that the show is the best thing on television.

Oct 16, 2019 | Rating: 5/5 | Full Review…

The show has not lost any of its timely, incisive probing of extreme wealth, and the staggering control it has over our world.

Aug 7, 2019 | Full Review…

Succession, the best of the lot, is a tightly wound spring of a show, the kind of addictive TV drama that rewards second and third viewings.

Oct 14, 2019 | Full Review…

The performances are so compelling it is hard to look away, but the effect is like watching a car crash you are somehow also involved in.

Just as critics Consensus desribes above!

Its a great show, after a fun start however certain characters are starting to really annoy in their role and how its viewed. The ending of season 2 was predictable at best and Kerian Culkin's along with Greg's role are getting old, real fast.

The caliber of the writing and acting on this show is matched only in the second season of Fleabag (a very different show). Jeremy Strong's performance is overwhelming.

One of the best shows on TV. Funny, witty and smart. Even the theme song is amazing with different memorable arrangements.

    Best show in years!

Stunning ensemble cast makes you feel as if you've got a front row seat to the year's best Broadway play.

Best show on TV since Sopranos !

The writing and acting in this show are second to none. Macfayden, Snook and the guy who plays Greg (can't remember his name!) are a few standouts for me. I honestly can't remember the last time a show was this consistently engaging. It was criminally underrepresented at the emmys. Hopefully that changes for this season

I didn't believe this show could become more nerve racking but the 2nd season gave me a full on panic attack. Jesus Christ.
